Die Bauern, welche im Gebiet um den Lachu\u00e1 See – einem unber\u00fchrten See inmitten eines Nationalparks im Departement Alta Verapaz – wohnen, sind \u00fcberwiegend Q’eqchi Maya, die Kardamom, Mais und Kakao anbauen. Viele der Landwirte in dieser Region leben noch v\u00f6llig ohne Strom, Internet oder Telefon.<\/p>\n

Durch deren Vereinigung zu ‘Cacao Verapaz’ ist der Kakao aus dieser Region schnell auf dem Schokoladenmarkt bekannt geworden und war bereits erfolgreich bei den International Chocolate Awards.<\/p>\n

Diese Schokolade unterliegt – in Anbetracht der klimatischen Bedingungen – nat\u00fcrlichen Schwankungen der unterschiedlichen Erntejahre. Die Lachua weist eine etwas st\u00e4rker betonte S\u00e4ure und Kakaonote auf. Ebenso tritt der Geschmack nach gelben Fr\u00fcchten mehr in den Vordergrund.<\/p>\n
