Jahrhundert gegr\u00fcndet wurde. Das Dorf ist ber\u00fchmt f\u00fcr seine Kakaoplantagen, den M\u00e4nnern der Diablos danzantes (tanzende Teufel) und den Frauen der San Juaneras (Gruppe, die sich um die Stadt-Kirche k\u00fcmmert). Auf den Chuao-Plantagen werden seit \u00fcber 400 Jahren Criollo- und Hybridsorten von Kakao angebaut. Chuao-Bohnen sind von sehr hoher Qualit\u00e4t und gelten als eine der hochwertigsten Bohnen der Welt.
