C’est au Pérou qu’on trouve les plus anciennes traces de cacao, consommé en breuvage il y a 5000 ans. Longtemps oublié, le Gran Nativo Blanco est une variété endémique de Morropón. Son nom provient de son taux élevé de fèves blanches, les plus rares et délicates. La coopérative Norandino aide les producteurs à sélectionner les meilleurs cacaoyers, cultivés en agroforesterie aux côtés de manguiers ou citronniers. Cette fève, souvent primée, est une des plus complexes du Pérou.
