En 1609 un navire voguant entre le Mexique et l’Espagne via les Philippines fut jeté sur les côtes du Japon lors d’une tempête. En plein naufrage, des pêcheuses de perles sauvèrent l’équipage puis la cargaison composée en partie de cacao. Ignorant qu’ils avaient affaire à des femmes vivant de la plongée, les marins restèrent persuadés d’avoir été halés sur le rivage par des sirènes.
Le navire et son équipage repartirent en direction des Philippines où le cacao fut planté. Cette tablette est un hommage aux plongeuses Japonaises sans qui ce chocolat n’existerait pas.
