Chuao ist ein kleines Dorf im nördlichen Küstengebiet von Venezuela, das im 16. Jahrhundert gegründet wurde. Das Dorf ist berühmt für seine Kakaoplantagen, den Männern der Diablos danzantes (tanzende Teufel) und den Frauen der San Juaneras (Gruppe, die sich um die Stadt-Kirche kümmert). Auf den Chuao-Plantagen werden seit über 400 Jahren Criollo- und Hybridsorten von Kakao angebaut. Chuao-Bohnen sind von sehr hoher Qualität und gelten als eine der hochwertigsten Bohnen der Welt. Nur knapp 20 Tonnen Kakao stehen jährlich zur Verfügung.
